IEEE R8 SAC Student Paper Contest 2016

This year’s IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest awards were held at Limassol Cyprus during Melecon 2016. From the original 29 submissions, the five finalists were Marko Bizjak from Slovenia , Serban Mihalache from Romania, Laszlo Pinter from Hungary , A.J. van den Biggelaar from the Netherlands and Stefan Wunsch from Germany.
After the oral presentation of the finalists, together with the marks given originally for the paper, the jury members chose the paper “Reducing the Processing Loss of Windowed Transforms Using Linear Discriminant Analysis” by Stefan Wunsch from the University of Karlsruhe as the winner.
Congratulations to Stefan, to the other finalists, and also to all the participants in the contest.

DEADLINE FOR IEEE STUDENT WEB SITE CONTEST

Dear students,

We want to inform you that we are approaching deadline for IEEE Student Web Site contest really fast. The regional deadline for web site submission is 22 April (annually). Be creative and submit your Student Branch Web Site.

All IEEE Student Branches and Branch chapters are eligible for the Student Branch Web Site contest. Each Student Branch may enter at most one Web site, regardless of the number of Branch chapters present. To enter your Branch, simply send an e-mail message to your Regional Students Activities Chair (RSAC), Regional Student Representative (RSR), and the contest administrator with the subject “IEEE Student Branch Web Site Contest.” Please include the:

 

  • URL of your Web site;
  • name of the Student Branch it belongs to;
  • IEEE region you are in;
  • e-mail address of the Web site contact or administrator;
  • name and e-mail address of Web site contact (if different from the above).

 

Also make sure that you follow the specific submission rules as outlined by your Regional Student Activities Chair (RSAC).

STUDENT PAPER CONTEST RESULTS 2016

The results of this year’s Student paper Contest are out. The five chosen finalists that will be presenting their papers at the Melecon 2016 conference, Limassol Cyprus on April 18, have been chosen by a five member jury.

These are :

Serban Mihalache, Florin-Silviu Dumitru, Current-Mode Capacitance Multiplier with Reduced Parasitic Elements, Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania

Marko Bizjak, The segmentation of a point cloud using locally fitted surfaces, University of Maribor, Maribor, Slovenia

Laszlo Pinter, Statistical Analysis of the Electric Vehicle Chargers’ Impacts on the Low-voltage Distribution System, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Budapest, Hungary

A.J. van den Biggelaar,  A Fast, Flexible and Accurate Algorithm for Shaping the 3D Radiation Pattern of an AAS, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands

Stefan Wunsch, Reducing the Processing Loss of Windowed Transforms Using Linear Discriminant Analysis, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany

 

While congratulating the authors of the five chosen papers, SAC thanks all participants in the SPC contest. There  were many other valid contributions but the jury members have to make a decision on which are the best from among all the papers presented.

Be sure to nominate your Student Branch for a project, your Counselor for recognition, and a very special student volunteer for any of these awards! Below you will find basic and useful information about the awards. Please read it carefully, prepare required documentation and start the nominations. Show us and prove it that R8 Student Branches are the most active in IEEE !

Step1

STEP 1: IEEE Student Enterprise Award

For whom?
Dedicated to Student Members who are looking to implement an idea for a project. Each Student Branch may submit only one proposal a year.

Who can nominate ?
IEEE Student members of the Student Branch.

What you can win ?
Up to US $1500

STEP 2: Larry K. Wilson Regional Student Activities Award

For whom?
Dedicated to Student Member who is most responsible for an extraordinary accomplishment associated with Student Activities (the award is designed to reward a particular event, program, or product of IEEE Student Activities).

Who can nominate you?
Student Branch Counselor, Section Chair, Section SAC, other IEEE volunteers. Remember, you can’t nominate yourself so please ask mentioned people to do it.

What you can win ?
Prestige ! Customized award plaque, a digital certificate, and three years of complimentary membership in IEEE.

STEP 3: IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award

For whom?
Dedicated to exemplary Student Branch which conform to IEEE Bylaws, have an active program and support IEEE goals.

Who can nominate?
Officer of the Student Branch

A customized certificate attesting to the exemplary operation of the Student Branch

Step 4: IEEE Outstanding Branch Counselor and Branch Chapter Advisor Award

For whom?
Dedicated to individuals around the world who, through their work as Counselors and Advisors, exemplify the Institute’s commitment to the educational, personal, professional, and technical development of students in IEEE related fields of interest

Who can nominate?
Student Branch (Chapter) Chair assisted by SB members

What Counselor (Advisor) and Branch (Chapter) can win ?
Counselor: US $150 cash award and personalized certificate
Student Branch: US $150 cash award

STEP 5: The Darrel Chong Student Activity Award

For whom?
Dedicated to Student Branches, Student Branch Chapters, Student Branch Affinity Groups of Women in Engineering (WIE) which have organized exemplary activity

Interested student groups who organized the activity

What you can win ?
The student branch will be presented with a digital certificate. Platinum winners will receive a plaque. Hard copy of the certificate will be provided upon request.
