Leadership workshops in London and Saudi Arabia

A series of workshops was held on March 19-22, 2014 by Kurt Richter, IEEE Life Fellow and PA Speaker. The back-to-back events in London and Jeddah attracted more than 50 participants in both cities.

Kurt Richter’s report follows.

London, UKRI Section

On the initiative of Charles W. Turner the IEEE student branch at the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) organized a 4 hours workshop on March 19, 2014. The workshop was held by the professor Kurt R. Richter and supported by the IEEE Region 8 Professional Activities Subcommittee (R8 PASC). The workshop is part of the IEEE Region 8 workshop program organized by R8 PASC. It was attended by approximately 50 participants including students as well as some people from university staff.

The duration of the workshop was cut down from normally 6 to 7 hours to 4 hours exuding a 15 minutes coffee break. Special emphasis was put on the interactive coorporation within groups of 4 to 5 and the presentations of the speakers of the groups who reported about the outcomes of their discussion.

The impression of the trainer and the response of the participants he received from Charles W. Turner who also participated in the whole workshop were very positive.

Unfortunately, after the workshop the train I had to leave in order to catch a plane to Saudi Arabia at Heathrow and, therefore, I could not socialize with the participants as I do at most workshops.

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia West Section

In October 2013 Prof. Kurt R. Richter was invited by the IEEE Saudi Arabia West Section to hold workshops in Jeddah. Due to technical and visa problems the workshops could not be organized earlier than March 2014. On the last day the organizers and many participants approached the trainer and expressed their appreciation of the workshops.
