93rd Region 8 Committee Meeting


[singlepic id=1312 w=241 float=left] The 93rd Region 8 Committee Meeting was held in Lisbon, Portugal on the 10th and the 11th of October 2009, following the invitation of the Portugal Session.

On October 9th (Friday) all day the Workshop on Energy Initiative was held, but on Friday evening there was a presentation of the Portugal Section where the Section officers took part in giving the past and the future of their Section.

One of the most important parts of the meeting was the Section workshop on the best practices and the most important problems of our Sections that was held on Saturday afternoon. The Sections were divided into 5 groups and with the help of Coordinators there were presentations and discussions. The results and summary of the groups were presented on Sunday morning by the Coordinators. In parallel to the meeting the Iberian Student Branch Congress took place with some 80 participants. On Saturday morning all the students participated at the opening of the Region 8 Committee meeting were they had the chance to meet the honoured guests of the meeting, IEEE President John Vig, IEEE President-Elect Pedro Ray, VP MGA Joe Lillie and Region 10 Director Yong-Jin Park. All the guests made very interesting presentations in front of the Committee.

On Saturday afternoon and evening all the participants had the chance to see a glimpse of Lisbon by taking a bus tour and then a guided tour and dinner at the St. George Castle on a hill overlooking Lisbon. The highlights of the evening were the traditional student groups singing traditional songs and the surprise 125th year anniversary cake that was cut by the IEEE President, President Elect and Region 8 Director.
