Efthymia has graduated from the University of Thessaly, Dpt of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics. Her main scientific interests are focused on Biomedical Informatics and Neuroengineering.

She is currently working on building her Startup company, which aims to help people who suffer from autoimmune diseases and face speech disorders due to neurological origins, communicate with their environment in their everyday life.
She has been an IEEE member since 2008, served as the Region 8 Student Branch Coordinator for the years 2013-2014, as the IEEE Greece Section Student Representative for 2011-2013 and as the and Chair of the IEEE UCG Student Branch in 2010-2011. She currently serves as Vice-Coordinator at the IEEE Academic, a project were students and professors are working together to create free educational material, available for everyone. As the Region Student Representative in the Region 8 Student Activities Committee, she aims to provide to the Region, tools, and opportunities for communication and extroversion, assisting their members and students and encouraging their collaboration towards contribution to the society.

 

 

 

Paul Micallef – R8 Student Paper Contest Coordinator

Paul Micallef is a retired Associate Professor at the University of Malta, a former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and a former Head of Department of Communications and Computer Engineering. He has been an IEEE Member since October 1976 and currently is an IEEE Life Member. Paul is also a former Chair of the IEEE R8 Malta Section. He is a former International Secretary of the Chamber of Engineers of Malta and chaired a subcommittee to set up the Continuous Professional Development Strategy for Engineering in Malta. He has been SPC Coordinator since October 2015.

George Papadimitriou – R8 Student Representative

George Papadimitriou and he is an Electrical and Computer Engineering student at the National Technical University of Athens, specializing in the fields of networks and telecommunications engineering. Since 2012, he volunteered as a Chair of the NTUA Student Branch and the IEEE Greece Section’s Student Representative fostering student collaboration and leading fruitful projects. Currently, he is working for HILTI, Global IT in Switzerland as an infrastructure intern. Previously he worked for Nokia R&D at the Technology Center in Athens.

As the Student Representative for Region 8, he envisions a Region 8 where student members are fully aware of the major IEEE projects and events and are actively involved in them, leading growth. He approaches Region 8’s diversity as our strength and stands for inclusiveness.

 

 

 

Lee Crudgington – R8 SAC Awards & Contest Coordinator

Lee is the awards and contests coordinator in the Region 8 Student Activities Committee in addition to being chair of student activities and chapters co-ordinator in the UK and Ireland Section. Lee also serves as secretary of the IEEE Photonics Society in the UK and Ireland, alongside serving as content lead within the IEEEmadC team.

Lee is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Southampton, having completed his PhD in photovoltaic technologies in 2015. Prior to this, Lee completed a masters degree in microelectronic systems design after working as a digital hardware engineer in the communications sector.

 

 

 

Sarra Ben Rabii – Technical Activities Liaison, Student Branch Chapters Coordinator

She graduates bioengineer from the National Institute of Applied Science and technology in Tunisia.

Curious, limitless and always eager to learn about everything related to business, market, and finance. she has been an IEEE member, the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, since 2015. Sara served for two years within the Regional IEEE Student Activities Committee (2017-2018) and responsible for representing more than 15.000 students and 500 student branches, channeling their interests through the global organization and providing support for their activities locally. As for her local activities among IEEE, she was the sponsorship manager during the international congress MESYP’17 (Middle East student and young professionals congress).

As Student Chapter Coordinator Sara account to serve the students in our region and contribute to the growth of our community.

 

 

 

Mohammad Hossein Babaee – R8 SAC Electronic Communications Coordinator

Mohammad Hossein Babaee is a Ph.D. Student of Electrical engineer at Minho University in Portugal. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees both from Azad University in Iran at Power.

As a member of IEEE, he served as Student Representative of IEEE Iran Section for 2 years, working as a liaison between Iran Section Board of Directors and 44 student branches. Now, he serves as Design Lead at IEEEmadC, Membership Development Coordinator at IEEE Portugal Section, and member of IEEE Ad-Hoc Committee for new membership models and opportunities in IEEE.

Also, he is an experienced-level graphic designer guy (which always helps him to pay his bills!), addict to Social Media, and in his spare time stunt double for Homer Simpson.

Rawane El Jamal – R8 SAC Projects & Initiatives Coordinator

Rawan holds a bachelor’s degree in computer and Communication Engineering and a Minor in Business from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. She focused on software development and artificial intelligence studies. Currently, she is a Consultant in the Middle East Office of the Boston Consulting Group. So far, her work involved setting the concept and strategy of a MegaCity Touristic Destination in a GCC country and developing programs and partnerships for a philanthropic foundation in the social impact sector. The sector and activities vary based on the project; this has exposed Rawan to various sector topics and allowed her to develop a rich skills toolset including problem-solving, strategy development, slide writing, and strong communication.

Rawan has been an active IEEE volunteer for the past four years at the American University of Beirut Student Branch and lead the branch as chair in 2018. During her time as branch chairperson, Rawan directed her focus on encouraging students to develop their soft skills, and technical engineering design and prototyping skills, as well as leveraging technology for social impact. Together with the SAC Region 8 team, she will continue to drive this effort as a projects and initiatives coordinator through launching new projects and competitions promoting the use of technical engineering skills to develop sustainable economic and social impact solutions.

 

 

 

Ángela Martínez – R8 Student Branch Coordinator

Her name is Ángela Martínez and she’s a student of Mechanical Engineering at University Miguel Hernández of Elche, Spain. She is the member of IEEE since 2014 and she has served as Chair on her Student Branch for two years and as Section Student Representative in Spain Section in 2017-2019.

Some of her most important experiences in IEEE were organized two events in Spain: National Student Branches Congress in 2016 and the Students, WIE & Young Professionals Congress in 2019.

As Student Branch Coordinator, she hopes to interact with branches of the Region 8 and provide them with the help and information they need. Keep up the good work!

 

 

 

Ahmed Al Omoush – Young Professionals Liaison, Industry Focus

Ahmed Al-Omoush is an electrical engineer got his bachelor’s from Hashemite University in Jordan. Currently, he is studying Masters Electrical and Microsystems Engineering at Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg in Germany.

Dreamer, hard-worker, passionate about technology, and always like to meet new people and make lifelong friendship.

He joined IEEE starting from Hashemite student branch for two main reasons, one related to meet new people, and the second one is to volunteer as a way to serve people. He served in the branch for three years -two of them as a vice-chair and held many positions in the Jordan section such as Young Professionals Vice-Chair, and Industry Relations Coordinator.

For the Engineering experience: he did an internship during his Bachelor at Royal Jordanian airlines (Engineering and Maintenance department – Avionics and MCC) and worked in the construction field for one and half year in a leading class A contractor in the Middle East.
